Giving Tuesday: which payment methods to offer?

Which payment methods belong on your donation page for 1 December 2026? What donors use, what WeGlow.world shows, and what changes for monthly gifts.

TL;DR The right payment methods for your donation page are the ones your donors already use every day: a card almost everywhere, plus the local method of the country your donors live in, such as Bancontact in Belgium or iDEAL in the Netherlands. WeGlow.world shows the methods that are active in your organisation's own Mollie or Stripe account. Monthly gifts get a shorter list, so test them separately.

Payment methods on your donation page help decide whether a supporter who wants to give on 1 December 2026 actually completes their gift. One unfamiliar or missing method is enough to make them close the page. This article explains which methods to offer, where the list on your page comes from and what to test before the day.

Which payment methods belong on your donation page?

Put 2 to 4 payment methods on your donation page that your donors already know. A card covers donors in almost any country. Add the local method of the country most of your donors live in. Pick the methods your supporters really use: a longer list only slows the choice down.

The official GivingTuesday toolkit suggests sending people to a donation page you choose yourself. What that page offers at checkout decides whether a good intention becomes a real gift.

Which payment methods does WeGlow.world offer?

WeGlow.world offers cards, plus Bancontact and iDEAL where they apply, through your organisation's own payment account. An organisation based in the European Economic Area, Switzerland or the UK connects its own Mollie account. In most other countries payments run through Stripe. Your donation page shows the methods that are active in that account.

Payment accountFor whomWhich methods your page showsMonthly gift
MollieOrganisations in the EEA, Switzerland and the UKEvery method you switch on in your Mollie account, such as cards, Bancontact or iDEALOnly methods that can set up repeat payments, so no Bancontact
StripeOrganisations in most other countriesThe methods Stripe allows for your accountA shorter list, with card as the core option

So the list on your page follows your Mollie account. Switch on an extra method in Mollie and it normally appears on your page. Leave a method switched off and your donors never see it, however good the rest of the page looks.

What happened to Payconiq, and why not point donors to it?

Payconiq no longer exists under that name. Since 16 March 2026 the Belgian app is called Bancontact Pay, and the merchant solution is called Bancontact Pro. Mollie no longer offers Payconiq. A WeGlow.world donation page therefore has no separate Payconiq or Bancontact Pay button. A Belgian donor who wants to pay by phone chooses Bancontact.

Bancontact Company announced the new names on 16 March 2026, with the app updating automatically. In its Bancontact documentation Mollie describes card entry and a mobile payment by app link or QR code, up to €1,500 per payment. Mollie lists Payconiq itself as no longer available.

  • Write "pay with Bancontact" in emails to Belgian donors, not "pay with Payconiq"
  • If you print a QR code on a poster, point it to your donation page

Which method suits which donor?

A card suits donors in almost any country, Bancontact suits donors with a Belgian bank card or banking app, and iDEAL suits donors with a Dutch bank account. You do not pick one method: you offer a few that together cover the people who really give to you.

MethodSuitsWatch out for
CardDonors in almost any countrySome donors dislike typing card details
BancontactDonors in Belgium, including those paying by phoneEuro only, and with Mollie not available for a monthly gift
iDEALDonors in the NetherlandsNeeds a Dutch bank account
Other Mollie methods, such as PayPal or bank pay buttonsDonors who already use themAppear only if you switch them on in your Mollie account

This table describes habits, not rules. Mollie names all of these in its payment methods overview, among many others. You can see which are active in your Mollie dashboard, and then on your own page.

What changes for a monthly gift?

For a monthly gift, a WeGlow.world donation page on Mollie shows only methods that can set up repeat payments, for example a card. Bancontact is not one of them, and iDEAL or bank pay buttons appear only if your Mollie account allows repeat payments for them. A monthly gift needs a method that lets the next payments run on their own, so the list is shorter than for a one-off gift.

Test the monthly option separately. Choose the monthly option on your own page and see which methods remain. Some donors expect to give monthly by direct debit. Whether that appears as a choice depends on your Mollie account, so only promise it in your appeal once you see it on your own page. How to guide one-off Giving Tuesday donors towards a monthly gift is covered in the article on monthly donors.

How do you set up your payment methods with WeGlow.world?

With WeGlow.world you first connect your own Mollie or Stripe account, then switch on the methods you want in that account, and finally test them on your donation page. Payments go through your own account, and your page carries your logo and colour. How the rest of the platform works is explained on the donation platform page.

  1. Create a free account on WeGlow.world.
  2. Connect your Mollie or Stripe account by following the steps in your account.
  3. Switch on a card and the local method your donors use.
  4. Build your page, for example with the steps to build your Giving Tuesday donation page.
  5. Make a small real gift yourself on a phone (say £5 or €5), one-off and monthly, and check the thank-you email.

The thank-you email goes out automatically once you have filled in a thank-you text. Your payment provider's fees are on its own website. The WeGlow.world fee is on the pricing page.

Which mistakes cost you gifts on 1 December?

A mistake that costs many gifts is a payment step nobody tested beforehand. Have your page ready at least two weeks before 1 December, test on a phone with a small real gift, and repeat the test a few days before the day itself. That way you find a switched-off method before your donors do.

  • The local method your donors expect is not switched on in your account
  • An email promises a method or app name your page does not show
  • Only the one-off option was tested, never the monthly one
  • Only tested on a computer, while many donors give on their phone
  • Nobody checked that the thank-you email arrives after payment

Let donors choose the amount first and the method second, so your page stays short. Which amounts and labels work is covered in the article on amounts and labels.

Frequently asked questions

Which payment methods does WeGlow.world offer?

WeGlow.world offers cards, plus Bancontact and iDEAL where they apply, through your organisation's own Mollie or Stripe account. Your donation page shows the methods that are active in that account. Switch on an extra method in Mollie and it normally appears on your page.

Can a donor give with Bancontact Pay or Payconiq?

Not through a separate button: a Belgian donor who wants to pay by phone chooses Bancontact on your page. Bancontact Pay, formerly Payconiq, is not a separate method on WeGlow.world, and Mollie no longer offers Payconiq. For Bancontact, Mollie does support payment by app link or QR code.

Why are there fewer methods for a monthly gift?

A monthly gift needs a method that lets the next payments run on their own. That is why WeGlow.world on Mollie shows, for example, a card for a monthly gift, but not Bancontact. One-off gifts keep the full list.

Do I need a local method if I already accept cards?

Only if many of your donors live in a country with a strong local habit, such as Belgium or the Netherlands. A card covers most other donors. In WeGlow.world you decide this yourself by switching methods on or off in your Mollie account.

What do the payment methods cost?

That varies by provider and is published on their own websites, so we quote no amounts here. The WeGlow.world fee is on the pricing page. The free plan has no monthly fee, no setup costs and no contract.
